More than 80,000 football fans flock
to AOL Presents the NFL Experience
HOUSTON, Texas –
Kicking off a week of Super Bowl excitement, the George
R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC) reported record attendance
during the opening weekend of AOL Presents the NFL Experience.
A reported 39,038 attended on Saturday,
January 24, making it the largest single day event attendance
figure in the 16-year history of the GRBCC, spanning
an estimated 700 conventions, trade shows and special
events.
NFL Experience officials reported 80,982 attended the
indoor interactive theme park over the three-day opening
weekend at the recently expanded convention center.
Officials expect even larger attendance this weekend.
“The George R. Brown is perfect
for managing major events like this,” said GRBCC
director Dawn Ullrich. “Because of the expansion
we are able to offer so much more space, and for large
crowds, like the ones this weekend, the expanse of the
facility enables attendees to navigate the event with
ease.”
The NFL Experience spans the entire ground floor of
the GRBCC, which is more that five football fields long.
“Our exhibit hall floor is so massive
it bodes well for future productions or conventions
that expect high number of attendees,” Ullrich
said.
The George R. Brown Convention Center
recently completed a $165 million expansion project
that nearly doubled the size of the facility, which
grew from four exhibit halls to seven. At 1.85 million
gross square feet, the George R. Brown now ranks among
the 10 largest convention centers in America.
