HOUSTON, Texas – Joyce Watson,
a veteran of 15 years in the hospitality industry, has
been named director of event services at the George
R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC).
Watson, 40, comes to Houston after serving in a similar
capacity at the San Diego Convention Center. In her
role at the GRBCC, she will oversee event coordination
and exhibitor services.
“I am excited about the opportunity to develop
and grow new business for the George R. Brown,”
Watson said. “We’re back on the map as the
result of recent expansions and we’re starting
to attract the attention of events that are drawn to
top-tier convention cities.”
Watson comes to Houston very highly regarded, says
Dawn Ullrich, director of the Convention & Entertainment
Facilities Department, which manages the GRBCC for the
City of Houston.
“Joyce has worked more than a thousand conventions
and consumer shows over the years and has a great understanding
for the depth of this business,” Ullrich said.
“Her expertise will help take us to the next level
in this very competitive industry.”
Watson is a native of Cincinnati and a graduate of
the University of California at San Diego, with a degree
in communications.
At 1.85 million gross square feet, the GRBCC ranks
among the largest convention centers in America. The
building features 1.2 million square feet of exhibition,
