Ric
Campo approved as new chairman of board, succeeding Bob
Lanier
HOUSTON,
Texas (May 7, 2004) – Dawn Ullrich, director
of the George R. Brown Convention Center and the City
of Houston’s Convention & Entertainment Facilities
Department, has been named president of the Houston
Convention Center Hotel Corporation.
The HCCHC is a non-profit corporation
created in 2000 to build and operate a convention headquarters
hotel. It was opened on time and within budget adjacent
to the George R. Brown on December 4, 2003, as the Hilton
Americas-Houston. At 1,200 rooms, the Hilton Americas
is Houston’s largest hotel.
Ullrich, 48, succeeds Gerard J. Tollett
in the position.
“Dawn Ullrich has proven to be a
most able administrator during the course of her 25-year
career with the City of Houston,” Houston Mayor
Bill White said. “She knows how to manage large
public facilities, including the George R. Brown Convention
Center, and fully understands all the issues related
to the Hilton Americas.”
Ullrich’s appointment was announced
after Richard J. Campo was unanimously approved as the
new chairman of the HCCHC board, succeeding former Mayor
Bob Lanier.
“Ric Campo has a wide range of experience
in public and private real estate projects and an uncommon
understanding of the related financing,” said
Mayor White, who nominated Campo. “And while nobody
really replaces Mayor Lanier, Ric has the skills necessary
to do an outstanding job as the Hotel Corporation’s
new board chairman.”
Campo, 49, is chairman and CEO of Camden
Property Trust, one of the nation’s largest multifamily
real estate investment trusts with a portfolio valued
in excess of $5 billion. He has served on the Harris
County/Houston Sports Authority board since its inception
in August 1997 and is presently secretary/treasurer
and chairs the finance committee.
In other HCCHC board action, Carin Marcy
Barth has been reappointed as secretary, Janiece Longoria
reappointed treasurer, and Munir Ibrahim appointed to
the board.
