HOUSTON, Texas – The George R. Brown Convention
Center (GRBCC) has been nominated as one of four finalists
for the 2006 Event Solutions Spotlight Award as Convention
Center of the Year.
In the publication’s nomination, the Brown was
hailed for its relief efforts in the aftermath of Hurricane
Katrina last September, as well as its performance during
the 2005 World Series and the International Quilt Festival,
both held just one month after the hurricane recovery.
Voting is open to the public at http://www.event-solutions.com/spotlight/vote.
The other finalists are Connecticut Convention Center,
Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority and Georgia
International Convention Center. The award will be announced
on August 23 in Denver.
“It is flattering just to be nominated for this
award,” said Luther Villagomez, general manager
of the GRBCC. “We work hard every day to meet
the needs of our clients and it’s gratifying that
our efforts have been noted. We hope our friends in
the industry share this view and will be motivated to
vote for us!”
