Harry R. "Skip" Kivel Retires After 16 Years at the George R. Brown Convention Center

Retiring senior maintenance superintendent Harry R. "Skip" Kivel accepts a mayoral proclamation
from GRBCC director Dawn Ullrich and
general manager Luther Villagomez.

HOUSTON, Texas – Harry R. “Skip” Kivel, senior maintenance superintendent at the George R. Brown Convention Center (GRBCC), is retiring. His last day on the job is Friday, July 29.

Kivel has spent 16 years coordinating the work crews that set up and clean up exhibit halls and meeting rooms, a critical task in a convention center that hosts multiple events simultaneously.

“Skip has set the bar high for others to follow,” GRBCC general manager Luther Villagomez said at luncheon honoring Kivel. “He and his team are the unsung heroes who make sure events at the George R. Brown go off without a hitch.”

Kivel, 61, and his wife, Jeanie, reside in Pearland. Skip expects to spend his leisure time golfing, fishing and pursuing his interest in collectibles.
