HOUSTON, Texas – Longtime George R. Brown Convention
Center staffer Ed King was named Employee of the Year
for the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department,
the City of Houston department responsible for managing
the downtown convention center.
King was recognized August 25 in the department’s
annual awards luncheon, held this year at Wortham Center,
another facility managed by the CEF department. King
has been with the convention center in various capacities.
Presently, he is assistant facility manager responsible
for parking and security associated with the convention
center.
“Everything Ed does, he does well and he does
it with a smile and a positive outlook,” GRBCC
general manager Luther Villagomez said. “He has
been a great ambassador for the George R. Brown Convention
Center.”
King, 65, will retire in October. An Air Force veteran,
King worked for Sears for 20 years before joining the
convention center in 1990. He also served on the board
of the North Forest Independent School District for
17 years, three as president. He and his wife, Gladys,
live in Humble. They have one daughter, Kimberly, and
two grandchildren, Nikki and Jerrad.
Other George R. Brown employees honored were Demi Hoang,
senior administration manager, and event manager John
Gonzalez. Both received Team Player awards for workplace
excellence.
Other employees honored as Team Players were Stephanie
Bell-Williams, Mitch Miszkowski, Liliana Rambo, Alexander
Palacios, Shawn Hauptmann and Charles Cox.
