Convention Center Veteran Ed King Named Employee of the Year for City Department

HOUSTON, Texas – Longtime George R. Brown Convention Center staffer Ed King was named Employee of the Year for the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, the City of Houston department responsible for managing the downtown convention center.

King was recognized August 25 in the department’s annual awards luncheon, held this year at Wortham Center, another facility managed by the CEF department. King has been with the convention center in various capacities. Presently, he is assistant facility manager responsible for parking and security associated with the convention center.

“Everything Ed does, he does well and he does it with a smile and a positive outlook,” GRBCC general manager Luther Villagomez said. “He has been a great ambassador for the George R. Brown Convention Center.”

King, 65, will retire in October. An Air Force veteran, King worked for Sears for 20 years before joining the convention center in 1990. He also served on the board of the North Forest Independent School District for 17 years, three as president. He and his wife, Gladys, live in Humble. They have one daughter, Kimberly, and two grandchildren, Nikki and Jerrad.

Other George R. Brown employees honored were Demi Hoang, senior administration manager, and event manager John Gonzalez. Both received Team Player awards for workplace excellence.

Other employees honored as Team Players were Stephanie Bell-Williams, Mitch Miszkowski, Liliana Rambo, Alexander Palacios, Shawn Hauptmann and Charles Cox.
