HOUSTON, Texas – The George R. Brown Convention
Center remains committed to strengthening its workforce
through ongoing staff development. Three employees recently
were conferred with the status of Certified Meeting
Professional (CMP) by the Convention Industry Council
National sales manager Lori Ehnes, sales administration
manager Demi Hoang and event manager Rachel Lampe each
met the CMP requirements of professional experience
and academic examination, as required by the Convention
Industry Council.
“It’s important for our clients to know
that our staff is continually working to stay abreast
of the best practices within the convention industry,”
said GRBCC general manager Luther Villagomez. “Just
like the letters CPA indicate a certain proficiency
among accountants, we think CMP is indicative of a better
trained, more knowledgeable convention industry professional.
“Therefore, we’re requiring that everyone
in our sales and event services offices will undergo
CMP training,” Villagomez added. “We want
everyone at the George R. Brown to have those three
letters following their names.”
Joyce Watson, CMP, director of event services for the
George R. Brown, facilitated CMP training throughout
the summer. Sessions were not limited to GRBCC employees.
Approximately, 15 hospitality industry professionals
from throughout Houston attended classes led by Watson
at the GRBCC.
