South addition 99% complete; north
site on schedule for completion next month
HOUSTON,
Texas (October 20, 2003) - There is still a
bit of dust in the air in the project to expand the
George R. Brown Convention Center, but clearly the end
is just around the corner.
Work will not officially be complete for
another two weeks, but Dawn Ullrich, director of the
George R. Brown Convention Center, said construction
on the south end of the center is about 99 percent complete.
"The south addition is virtually
finished," Ullrich said. "All that remains
is some architectural work in the lobby and registration
areas. And cleanup, of course."
Ullrich said work on the north end of the center remains
on schedule for completion in about a month.
While work was going on, the convention
center staff took time out on October 16 to mark the
16th anniversary of the building's 1987 opening with
an old-fashion Sweet 16 party. Ullrich and GRBCC general
manager Luther Villagomez served up cake for employees
and contractors.
