HOUSTON, Texas – Longtime George R. Brown Convention Center staffer Ed King retires on Tuesday and will be recognized in a ceremony before Houston City Council. Council Member Jarvis Johnson will present a mayoral proclamation to King on behalf of Mayor Bill White.

King, 65, has been with the convention center in various capacities since 1990. He concluded his career as assistant facility manager responsible for parking and security issues associated with the convention center. In the near term, King plans to remain at the convention center as a part-time employee, working on an event-by-event basis.

Two months ago, King was named Employee of the Year by the Convention & Entertainment Facilities Department, the City of Houston entity responsible for managing the downtown convention center.

An Air Force veteran, King worked for Sears for 20 years before joining the convention center staff. He also served on the board of the North Forest Independent School District for 17 years, three as president. He and his wife, Gladys, live in Humble. They have one daughter, Kimberly, and two grandchildren, Nikki and Jerrad.
